Christina Cortez

HS Spanish Teacher

Hi, my name is Christina Cortez . I am so excited to be teaching MS Spanish, Spanish 1 & Spanish 2 here at Hudson! I am a very passionate teacher who loves teaching Spanish. This is my first year at Hudson, but my 12th year teaching overall. For the past two years I have taught at Clarksville Community Schools where I was able to develop a growing K-12 Spanish program. Previously I also taught at Denver, Tripoli and Don Bosco. Over the past 12 years I  have had the opportunity to work with K-12 ESL and Spanish language learning students at all levels. I have also been an NHS sponsor, mentor teacher, teacher leader and directed student plays and musicals. In my classroom I have a passion for connecting and building community with students while fostering a love for the target language and culture.

In addition to sharing my love of languages with my students, I love connecting with other teachers and volunteering in my community. Through mentoring local student and practicum teachers, presenting at conferences and in my current role serving as the president of the IWLA (Iowa World Language Association) I have been able to connect with so many others who share the same passion for language learning.

I grew up in DesMoines, IA and graduated from Saydel High School. I earned my B.A. in both TESOL and Spanish teaching and a certificate in Spanish translation from the University of Northern Iowa.

In my free time I like to spend time with my husband and my 6 year old son Isaac. I also love music and enjoy singing, reading, traveling and volunteering in my community. I am so excited to be a Hudson Pirate!
