Friday Board Bulletin 5/27/2022
Board Members:

We have wrapped a successful school year on Tuesday. Unfortunately the weather wasn't all that niece, and hasn't been for the balance of the week. Today is shaping up to be a great day though! The district appears to be a ghost town as I am the only one here. I guess everyone else had the good sense to take today off! I believe I'll be taking the afternoon off as well. I want to offer congratulations to the girls soccer team on a stellar season! They fell short in the regional final last night, losing heartbreaker in a third period 3rd overtime period in a shootout. The future is very bright for this program. We'll now turn our attention to summer sports, and look forward to baseball and softball tonight at home.

The legislative session finally came to an end this week, so thankfully we can stop worrying about that for the time being! Here are a few  highlights:

They did not take action on several education bills that garnered a lot of our attention during session including HF 2577 which was the House proposal on education transparency or the Senate bill SF 2369 that would have added a “Parental Bill of Rights” along with stringent transparency requirements that schools would have been required to publish on their websites, and private school scholarships (vouchers). GOOD NEWS!

In a late night/last minute move the legislature struck all the dates and deadlines in Division VI of the Standings Appropriations Bill HF 2589 that deals with open enrollment (if you go to the link the section dealing with OE begins on page 11 and runs through page 15). This means that there are now NO open enrollment deadlines. Students can now open enroll between districts at any time and as always, funds follow immediately. Just when you think things can’t get any crazier, this happens out of the blue with little public input or debate.

Have an enjoyable and relaxing Memorial Day Weekend and I look forward to seeing you soon!
