Friday Board Bulletin 8/17/18

Posted Date: 08/17/2018

Board Members:

Today we mark the end of a very productive, inspiring, and outstanding week. On Monday we welcomed our brand new teachers to the district and began a week long of induction and inservice. Today, those teachers new to the district, but not necessarily new to the profession joined us for a day of induction. This afternoon was spent in ethics training with yours truly. It really has been inspiring seeing this new crop of teachers begin their careers. They are so excited and full of energy. They literally can't wait to start teaching our kids next week!

If you have been on Twitter this week, you also probably noticed we got the hot lunch program off the ground. This entire week, the food service staff has treated us to lunch as they go through their training protocols. As the week went on, the lunch line got a little longer as word got out that we were serving lunch. Yesterday and today we were lucky enough to have several students on hand who were in the building helping teachers. They all indicated to me that it was a great experience and are looking forward to lunch next week!

It never ceases to amaze me how quickly all the pieces fall into place as we get ready to start a new school year. Our facilities look a lot different today than they did one week ago. Each year when we are about 10 days out, I begin to wonder if we are going to make that immovable deadline. While we still have a few items left on our 'to do' list (some of which won't be completed until at least the end of the month), the transformation that has taken place in our district is amazing. This is a testament to the hard work of our maintenance and custodial crew!

Finally, I am happy to report that all our open positions are now filled. I think that may be the first time we have been on the eve of the school year fully staffed up.  I'm looking forward to seeing you on Monday night. Thankfully we will be able to return to the board room as our air conditioning is finally working! Our agenda is relatively light be design so we can get you out in time to attend the Open House. Have a great weekend and enjoy this final respite before the school year begins next week.

New Teachers in the Hudson Community School District for the 2018-2019 School Year

The picture I am sharing with you this afternoon is of our new teaching staff. Notice how happy they all look! This is before they had to spend an hour and a half with me in training!

Have a good weekend!
