Friday Board Bulletin 10/12/18

Posted Date: 10/12/2018

Board Members:

Monday morning began with a meeting regarding planning for phase III along with troubleshooting some of the high humidity that we have experienced in phase II. Both our architect and engineer will be in attendance for the board meeting on Monday evening to answer your questions. That meeting was followed with a conference call with our financial adviser, at which time we decided it would be prudent to wait until November before starting the financing process. We do anticipate having the scope and budget for phase III decided by then. You input on Monday evening will be critical as we move this ball down the field.

On Tuesday I was invited to attend a meeting at the Capitol that was called by Senator Amy Sinclair who chairs the Senate Education Committee. The focus of this meeting was to discuss the concurrent enrollment funding formula and to examine possible ways it could be improved. I was able to highlight the fact that our supplementary weighting doesn't begin to cover the cost of administering this courses, which I truly believe resonated with the committee. Certainly we are a long way from seeing any changes to legislation, but nonetheless I was happy to provide information to the group for consideration.

Then on Wednesday and Thursday I was called for jury duty and did end up being selected for a jury trial. The trial lasted two days and I was home by 5:00 last night. I actually don't mind jury duty, it is the second time I have sat on a jury, but the timing wasn't all that great this time.

A couple of substantial reports were completed this week, the biggest and most important of which was our certified enrollment report. I would encourage you to take a peak at this report that is included in the board pack as exhibit number 7.2c. We will not be spending a whole lot of time on it Wednesday. If you have previously reviewed your material for Monday night, I would encourage you to take another look at exhibit 7.2d, which has been updated as of late last evening and again this afternoon. Most notably, I have adjusted the enrollment projections to match the forecasting report, and I have aggressively increased the line item titled 'emergency repairs'. I'll share my thoughts on this Monday evening.

Finally, if you haven't had an opportunity to complete our needs assessment, I would invite you to please do so now. If you are a current board member, please check the box marked 'board member'. If you are an emeritus member, please mark the box 'community member'.

That is all for now. I look forward to seeing you on Monday evening! If you are headed out to the game tonight, be sure to dress warm. We are going to experience weather this evening  unlike any we have seen in quite some time!

Have a great weekend!
