Friday Board Bulletin 11/16/2018

Posted Date: 11/16/2018

Board Members:

What an exciting week for our school district! From the beginning of the week until the end, we have quite a bit to be proud of in our school! In addition to that, we moved the ball forward on several important projects.

Monday began with our annual Veterans Day observance assembly in the high school. The government class under the direction of Mr. Simmer always does a great job planning this day. Following the assembly, we had a nice luncheon with Veterans at the Community Church. Again, great job by our students for planning the day! I'll also offer a shout out to Mr. Haskovec who invites Veterans to attend an assembly in the middle school each year. It is apparent our schools are very proud of those who have served and enjoy honoring them each year.

On Tuesday we worked all day with Evan Abbey from AEA Online PD to create an online presence and repository for web based training and professional development for our staff. Primarily we were looking for a way to streamline the annual training that is needed for staff and create a 'one stop shop' where teachers can go for a number of training and professional development. We anticipate the utility provided by AEA online will enable us to create even more powerful and relevant training opportunities for teachers as groups or individuals.

The IASB Delegate Assembly was on Wednesday at the Iowa Events Center. Kala was brave enough to get up early and join me for this meeting. I'll let here brief you on the day, but in my opinion we had a successful trip. We even had time to visit the vendor hall at the end of the day and pick up some literature to address upcoming projects.

Of course to top off what was already a fantastic week, our Hudson Pirates won the state title. That makes three state football championships in school history: with the last one being in 1994. It is worth noting, we began the season ranked #1 and retained that ranking all through the season, culminating in the state championship yesterday afternoon with a 30-7 victory. But of course you already knew that!

Sprinkled throughout the week was a lot of work preparing for the board meeting, most notably getting ready for our discussion regarding Phase III of the elementary renovation project. This included conferences with Piper Jaffray regarding our financing options; and two additional meeting were held with our architects that were to refine the budget and meet with user groups on some of the finer details of spaces. Invision will be at our meeting on Monday evening to share details and options regarding the scope and budget for the project. We do  have approval of the scope and budget for Phase III on the agenda for Monday, along with taking the first steps with financing. After my meeting with Invision this morning, they will be providing some additional information and options for your consideration prior to the final vote.
