Friday Board Bulletin 1/18/19

Posted Date: 01/18/2019

Board Members:

Happy Friday as we come to the end of an interesting week. It looks as if we are getting our first real taste of winter! I did have a parent tell me that it looks a little silly now that we had let the kids out of school early today. If only we had the benefit of hindsight! This certainly would have come in handy on more than one occasion this week.

The big event of the week was receiving bids for Phase III of the elementary renovation project.. Hopefully by now you have had an opportunity to review those bids and my proposed recommendation moving forward. I do look forward to our conversation at the board meeting on Monday night. We received financing proposals yesterday and I am currently waiting for Piper to complete their analysis. You should see something in the board packet within the next several hours.

I have been in Des Moines since Wednesday evening, starting with a BoEE meeting that evening and most of yesterday. We have a brief respite when we attended a legislative reception at the Capitol yesterday morning. I hope you saw the governor's recommendation of 2.3% allowable growth next year. While it is nothing to get too excited about, it should be noted this is a higher proposal than what we have been accustomed to the last several years. Keep in mind this is merely an opening position and the General Assembly will have quite a bit to say about this topic before it's all said and done. Last night and this morning I attended the School Executives of Iowa winter meeting, although I ducked out a bit early this morning so I could be home before the storm.

In any event, that is about all! Have a wonderful weekend and I look forward to seeing you on Monday for the board meeting!
