Friday Board Bulletin 5/31/19

Board Members:

I am touching base with you again early this week, partly because tomorrow is the last day of school and it will likely be a bit hectic around here, and partly because Ann and I plan to take off for a week's vacation sometime tomorrow afternoon!

This last week of school has been challenging for a lot of reasons. Luckily our staff has handled it quite well! Pirate Term got off to a very wet start and continued in spurts of rain throughout the week. This caused a lot of our teachers to change their plans, which they handled quite well. The cascading effect of this however, was a huge disruption to the bus schedules for the week. Both Sheila and the drivers handled this with the utmost of professionalism and exhibited great flexibility. Hats off to them!

During the latter half of this week we began emptying classrooms in advance of the construction which is set to begin, well probably tomorrow afternoon as soon as the kids and teachers depart the building. Once again, our staff handled this disruption very well and were prepared to move when it was time to move and were able to keep the students well occupied and busy!

Our boys soccer team qualified for the state tournament (for the second year in a row), but unfortunately the tournament was postponed a day due to the field conditions in Des Moines. This of course exacerbated the transportation issues I talked about above. Also a big congratulations to our girls soccer team who won their first round of district play 10-0. They'll play again tomorrow night at home.

Packed gym with furniture

While the photo I am sharing this week doesn't depict any kids, it does demonstrate progress. Between the little gym and the commons, here is where we are storing the contents of our lower elementary school this summer. This photo was taken just moments ago (close to the end of the day on Thursday), and shows that Mr. Schlatter was successful in his desire to get the rooms cleared out by the end of the day today.

If you are planning to visit the district or would like to have a tour of the construction at anytime over the summer, please let me know, I would love to show you around. However, be advised the elementary school becomes a hard hat area after dismissal tomorrow. Have a great weekend! There won't be a bulletin next week since I'll be on vacation. As always though, if you need to reach me I'll be available via cell phone.
