Friday Board Bulletin 8/23/2019

Posted Date: 08/23/2019

Board Members:

And we're off! Just a few minor hiccups to get the year started, but that is always expected on the first day of school! I have only three main objectives for the first day of school: get everyone here safely, serve everyone lunch, and get them home safely. With that, mission accomplished! We really have had a wonderful week in the district! I know we just had a school board meeting on Monday evening, but it seems like it has been a lot longer ago than that!

Our entire faculty and staff need to be commended for all their hard work in getting ready for students. In addition to this, we have to tip our hats to the contractors who worked longer days to finish up what needed to be done inside. While that work will continue, we are a long way from where we were on Monday!

Following our opening convocation on Tuesday morning (you can read my address here), the schedule for our employees included numerous annual training, faculty meetings, and plenty of time for everyone to prepare for the arrival of students this morning. As most of you were aware, we had open house on Tuesday night, and the work that was done over the summer was a huge hit--especially the library!

I did want to offer one update on the track. I received an email from Fisher on Wednesday of this week as a matter of their efforts to maintain open lines of communication with the district. They are still waiting for test results from the polyurethane manufacturer and at this point are putting the material through a 'weatherometer', which they indicate takes time.

Opening day enrollment is always an interesting figure to share, but it is important to keep in mind these numbers are far from official and will continue to fluctuate until the official count is taken on October 1st.

First Day Enrollment 2019-2020

While this first day number suggests an increase of just six over last year, up is up and that is a great thing for our district! Again, while not an apples to apples comparison, this surpasses a BEDS enrollment number of 752 posted in 2007.

Have an awesome weekend.
