Friday Board Bulletin 11/15/2019

Board Members:

Ann and I returned from our Florida vacation around 1:00 p.m. last Sunday and Monday morning I was out checking roads to determine whether or not we would be on time for school. Luckily we were on time, but it was quite a welcome home! I hope this wasn't foreshadowing of what we can expect for this winter because I am not all that interested in a repeat of last year!

Congratulations to both Dave and Kala for the election to the school board! I am looking forward to the new term and thankful for the stability! We'll be able to keep moving right along with our initiatives and efforts without  missing a beat! A reminder that we will need to address organizational matters at the beginning of our meeting on Monday evening and this will include an updated official board photo for the website. Speaking of Monday's meeting, you will also notice that I have Sam Fisher scheduled to meet with the board. I was contacted earlier in the week with a time request but at the writing of this bulletin haven't received confirmation that he will actually show up. We also have the athletic department on the agenda along with our trainer and Mr. Dieken. Mr. Dieken is planning to provide an update on the status of our Pirate Term work. In spite of those items we'll do everything we can to keep the meeting moving so those of you that want to attend the winter sports kickoff will be able to do so.

I started my first round of annual new teacher meetings this week and hope to have them wrapped up by the middle of next week. I always enjoy this opportunity to check in with our new employees to see how it's going and find out if they need any additional support. I'll tell you what: we have some fantastic new employees! Thursday I spent some time with our school improvement consultant discussing our ISASP data before heading off to D & W floor covering for a Chamber event that was cosponsored by our own local and the Cedar Valley Alliance. Today I attended the AEA superintendent advisory council meeting (of which I am a member) to review a variety of initiatives and to provide feedback on the services of our AEA.

Girls volleyball team at the state tournament

The photo I am sharing is the highlight of our week here at Hudson. Our girls volleyball team competed in the state tournament on Wednesday taking on #1 Western Christian. Although we came up a bit short, our girls fought hard and kept it competitive all the way to the end. I am very proud of them! There is no doubt this is an experience they will never forget and years from now will look fondly on this day! Another reason why 'It's Great to be a Pirate!'

Have an awesome weekend and I look forward to seeing you on Monday night. And final reminder: picture day!
