Friday Board Bulletin 12/19/2019

Board Members:

I'll be brief today since we just had our meeting on Monday evening. Thank you, by the way for your work on Monday evening! You accomplished much on behalf of the students in our school district. I always enjoy our December meeting, a bit lighter on the agenda; and anytime food is involved I am excited!

One thing I forgot to share with you was the nice letter I received from the organization 'Americans for Independent Living' earlier this month. When we were completing the demolition during Phase III, we didn't have the storage to keep the window air conditioners and really don't have any further use for them. So, instead of incurring a cost to throw them away, we worked with our general contractor and had them donated to this organization. Attached is a letter of appreciation from them that I thought you might enjoy reading.

Progress is great, and I am always happy when I can share good news with you. On Wednesday we finally rolled over to the new phone system! We are now all VOIP, so this is a significant upgrade to our old system, not to mention replacing all the antiquated equipment! We’ll have a slight learning curve as we get used to the new system, but I didn’t really know how to use the old system anyway!

I also wanted to share with you an email I received from Maureen Hanson who spoke to you on behalf of the Central Rivers Board of Directors on Monday evening:

Hello Hudson Board members,

Thank you for allowing us time on the agenda to speak about Central Rivers AEA. It is an

amazing organization that has so much to offer school districts! I am grateful that Hudson

is able to use so many of our services. Thank you for being so interested and asking so

many questions!

I should have mentioned that I was the person who called Tony to offer him the position

in Hudson, as I was president of the board at that time. I held my breath until I heard

him accept our offer. I was (and am) so thankful that he agreed to come to Hudson!

You asked about the number of social workers and school psychologists employed by

the AEA - here are the numbers:

At the AEA, we use the term "Team Reps" to encompass 3 different professions,

but they have similar responsibilities.

School Social Workers = 28
School Psychologists = 37
Special Ed Consultants = 54
Total = 119 Team Reps

I hope this helps! Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Thank you for serving on the Hudson Board of Education - it is such an important role!

Kind regards,

Maureen

Well, that's about all for now. The office will be closed on Tuesday and Wednesday next week, and then again on December 31st and January 1st. Otherwise, we'll be open regular business hours. I just ask that you call ahead if you would like to stop by. As I will be the only one in central office, I may not necessarily be in my office.

No bulletin next week. Have a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Dr. Tony Voss, Superintendent
