Friday Board Bulletin 3/6/2020

Posted Date: 03/06/2020

Board Members:

I hope everyone has enjoyed the first week of March! While it doesn't necessarily feel like spring yet, we are offered a few glimpses of sunshine and pleasant weather! It has been another very busy week here in the district, and the administrators have been working hard; at times not knowing if they are coming or going!

A couple of highlights this week would include the jazz band concert on Tuesday evening. I so enjoy seeing our students perform and am always impressed with the very professional sound Mrs. Davis is able to produce with these student performers. They are absolutely amazing and will compete again the Saturday right here at Hudson for a chance to qualify for the state jazz championship in Des Moines.

On Wednesday I invited the administrative team to join me at Central Rivers to hear from edu-celebrity Hamish Brewer. Known as a tattooed skateboarding middle school principal from Northern Virginia, he is known for his Call to 'Be Relentless' and is ability to turn around some of the most difficult schools in the state. If you have a few minutes and would like to hear more about Mr. Brewer, here is a video clip of a TED talk

The big news coming out of the legislature this week was SSA finally being decided. As a brief recap, the House passed 2.5% and the Senate passed 2.1%. The governor of course recommended 2.5%, so that should have been a relatively easy lift. They decided this week to split the difference and go with 2.3%. For Hudson, that equates to $202,866.

Monday morning in kindergarten

The photo I am sharing this week is from one of the kindergarten rooms on Monday morning. As Bryant and I were doing our Monday morning walk through inspection, I heard the kids singing and just had to stop by and see what was going on! Life as a kindergartner must be great, particularly if you have such awesome teachers as we have here at Hudson!

Have a great weekend, a reminder that we have a special meeting on Wednesday at 5:00.

Dr. Tony Voss, Superintendent
