Friday Board Bulletin 3/27/2020

Board Members:

I hope today's message finds you all well and safe at home! We are wrapping up our first week of this new (and hopefully) normal and I couldn't be prouder of the work our teachers, administrators, and support staff to meet the needs of students across the district!

This week has been a full one for me with numerous meetings using Zoom; including two faculty meetings, two cabinet meetings, a couple of meeting with the DE, a meeting with the AEA, one with the conference superintendents, and even multiple new teacher meetings that I hosted this week that is part of my normal process with new teachers. A normal week has a lot of meetings like this, but frankly I am about Zoomed out for the week! I have a lot of newfound appreciation for those of you who are more accustomed to work from home!

Our meal delivery service continues to be a significant help to our community and the guidelines have just been loosened up for us to have the ability to deliver meals directly to parents instead of needing to only hand them out to children.

There is no mistaking the fact that the highlight of the day was the teacher parade throughout the district. While this was coined a way for the kids to see their teachers, I think it was just as therapeutic, if not more so for the teachers to see their students. Not to mention for some of the parents!

I'll sign off for this week by thanking you for your leadership during a very challenging time. Please don't underestimate the power and significance your leadership and governance at a time when it is needed now more than ever. Your decisive action at the board meeting on Monday evening was exactly what was needed to reassure our community, employees, and students. One of my colleagues tweeted earlier in the week that we need to view this as a marathon and not a sprint. The way we tackle a marathon is by only focusing on the mile we are on.

The photo I am sharing today is one that was tweeted out from our own Pirate Press. It depicts a scene that was played out hundreds of times today while on the parade route.

Stay strong and stay safe.
