Friday Board Bulletin 8/21/2020

Board Members:

It has been a whirlwind of a week! First, I appreciate your diligence to the work of governance, the support you have provided my administrative team, and your willingness to tackle these tough issues. I'll remind you that although school is starting in a couple of days, there will be more tough decisions to be made.

Tuesday we had our back to school luncheon with the new teachers, which was a bit awkward with all our social distancing protocols (but made it work). Wednesday morning we kicked off the new year with the annual Convocation address to the employees. In this speech, I drew historical parallels between our country's revolutionary war and the current challenges we face using the musical Hamilton as an aide. A recurring theme throughout the show is a call to Rise Up!, and the recognition that the 'World is Turned Upside Down' An abridged version will be published in my blog next week if you are interested in reading it.

All throughout the week, there has been a buzz of excitement and energy in our schools. I am getting a sense that everyone is very happy to be here back in our buildings at work. We have done our best to pick up where we left off, teachers have been busy with professional development and preparing their classrooms for instruction. While it will be a very busy weekend here in the district (I've already  mandated overtime for the custodial staff), the transformation in the facility that has taken place since Monday is amazing. No doubt tomorrow will be a very busy day, but we'll be ready for Monday.

Have a great weekend.

Dr. Tony Voss, Superintendent
