Friday Board Bulletin 12/17/2021

Board Members:

It has certainly been an interesting week! First, I appreciated your willingness to move our regularly scheduled board meeting to Monday. Unfortunately, Ann and I decided not to go to the concert on Wednesday evening. With the unknown weather system moving in that afternoon I felt it was best that I stayed close by. Fortunately we had no damage from the system that came through and we were able to have school the rest of the week with no problem! Some schools in our conference were not quite so lucky!

Hopefully you were able to see the Iowa School Report card this week and the stories that ran in the local paper and news stations. We had excellent results, with our elementary school earning an 'Exceptional' ranking and the high school earning 'High Performing'! You can read my blog about these results right here and directly access the report card from this link. We are very proud of our school district!

Yesterday and today we have been dealing a bit with the nationwide threat that came out on TikTok. In case you are curious, we are running at about 7% absence because of this with parents specifically citing the unsubstantiated threat as the primary reason they have chosen to keep their children home today. We have stepped up our police presence today with additional patrols, but for the most part this is just a very normal day of school.

This morning we had our kickoff meeting with our architect to begin the planning process for the high school project. It was a great meeting and the team is excited to get the ball rolling. We spent quite a bit of time discussing the scope of the project and touring the facilities. Next week we will start generating a list of about 30 community members representing a cross section of our community to serve on a task force that will begin in January.

FFA Breakfast servers

It's been awhile since I shared a photo with you all, but this is definitely a highlight of the week for me. The FFA provided breakfast for all faculty and staff this morning and I am still full! What a great service to our employees. Thanks to the FFA!

Have a wonderful weekend. This will be the last Friday bulletin until January! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
