Friday Board Bulletin 7/6/18

Board Members:

Having the 4th of July fall on a Wednesday makes for kind of an awkward week! Nonetheless, I have returned from my vacation to Philadelphia and have been in the office all week long. Unfortunately we have continued to battle the heat as the air conditioning unit hasn't arrived yet. It sounds like it will be shipped on Monday, so hopefully we will begin to see some relief by the end of next week. Too bad, because it is going to be very hot next week again!

On Monday afternoon we started planning for phase 3 of the elementary renovation project, which is in alignment with the master facility plan that was adopted by the board at the June meeting. At this meeting we spoke in general terms about overall concept and design. Next week we will meet with the primary users of the space (specifically the new elementary entrance and office, concession area, library, and locker rooms). Since our goal is to have this project ready for bid letting by December, we are moving quickly.

This morning I met with Mayor Wessel regarding the future of Washington Street. There has been some feedback from the community that has not all been positive. However, this decision rests with the City of Hudson. It will take a few months to see how this plays out, and will consist of public hearings on the city side of things. We will first need to begin by petitioning Planning and Zoning to consider making a recommendation to the council. This is something that will be discussed at our July board meeting.

Mr. Schlatter has been in the office quite a bit this week as well. Traditionally the building principals are off during the month of July, but he has needed to be around to help me out with a few miscellaneous items with regard to the construction project. Plus he has one final paraprofessional that needs to be hired. (For the record, we are in very good shape in terms of staffing for next year.)

Phase 2 of the elementary renovation project continues to move along at a great pace. We'll have another meeting next week and then I'll be prepared to brief you at our July meeting.

Have a great weekend! Baseball is sill going on, post season play begins Tuesday night at home.
