Dr. Voss holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Clarke University in Dubuque where he majored in music education, specializing in voice; and a Master of Arts degree from Loras College in Dubuque in educational leadership. He earned both his superintendent certificate and Doctorate of Education from the University of Northern Iowa. His dissertation work focused on the implementation of teacher leadership systems in Iowa. Notably, the Hudson Community School District was among the first in the state to implement a comprehensive teacher leadership system where almost 25% of teachers serve in a leadership role.
Previous teaching assignments include Aquin of Cascade (K-8), St. Columbkille of Dubuque (K-8) and Dyersville Beckman (7-12). Dr. Voss has served in administrative roles as Dean of Students while at Dyersville Beckman, and principal of St. Joseph Catholic School. He was named Superintendent of Schools for the Hudson Community School District in 2010.
Voss also has previous experience working with the Institute for Educational Leadership as a ‘critical friend and mentor’ for those studying to become superintendents. His areas of expertise include budget and finance, strategic implementation of teacher leadership systems, and collective bargaining. Dr. Voss has also served as an instructor with the Iowa Superintendents Finance and Leadership Consortium (ISFLC), delivering professional development to Iowa superintendents.
Tony is an active member of the Hudson Chamber of Commerce, serving as president for two years; and the Family and Children’s Council of Blackhawk County, including a term as vice-president. In February of 2017, Voss was appointed by Governor Terry E. Branstad to a term on the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners, and served as Chair of the Board prior to the expiration of his term in 2023.
In 2016, Voss was the recipient of the University of Northern Iowa Legacy Award for exemplary practice as a leader of learning, service, and change. Dr. Voss lives in Hudson with his wife Ann of 26 years.
