FRIDAY BOARD BULLETIN 2/23/18

Board Members:

Thank you for your hard work on Monday evening! We accomplished a great deal of important work on behalf of the school district! Unfortunately of course, we were forced to close school on Tuesday, taking the number of makeup days to four! While the end of February is withing our grasp, I am uncertain we are out of the woods yet. Please keep your fingers crossed!

A lot of time has been spent this week reviewing proposals for our food service management companies. Our core group is not yet finished scoring, but we are making good progress. I am excited to roll this out to our community once we finish all the research and legwork!

The past two days have found me in Des Moines at the winter ISFLC meeting. One of the highlights of which was the legislative update. While there wasn’t any education meetings this week, we did learn that HF 2235 passed on a 95-3 vote. This bill would establish Iowa Testing as the state assessment. Unfortunately, this is the opposite recommendation of two separate commissions and committees spanning several years. Our concern with the Iowa Assessment primarily rests with alignment. While we have been assured the newest iteration of assessment will align, past practice and track record doesn’t make me feel all that confident!

It has also been a week of webinars in between ISFLC! I have found myself in a post funnel meeting, TLC end of year reporting, management of FSMC, and topped it off with a meeting with the DE where the discussion centered around the implementation of ESSA.

Finally, I would like to close this week with congratulations to our boys basketball team on a successful season. Our run ended last night with a district final loss to Don Bosco. We fought hard, and our team has a lot to be proud of! As a sign of spring, our attention now turns to track!

Have a great weekend!
