New Teachers in the Hudson Community School District for the 2018-2019 School Year

Jen Bistline (elementary/instrumental music) Mrs. Bistline holds a Bachelor of Music Education from Wartburg College and is endorsed in K-12 music and music therapy. Prior to her appointment at Hudson she was a private music instructor and was a church music director. Originally from Wisconsin, Mrs. Bistline currently resides in La Porte City with her husband and four children. She enjoys cooking, baking, gardening, and spending time with family, as well as collaborating with fellow musicians. She is looking forward to a year of new people and new opportunities for music making with the kids at Hudson!

Jennifer Ersland (High School English; concurrent enrollment college courses) Mrs. Ersland completed her undergraduate work at Augustana College, earning a Bachelor of Arts. Mrs. Ersland completed her master’s degree at St. Cloud University and has also completed graduate work at the University of Northern Iowa. She holds endorsements in 5-12 English, language arts; and 5-12 American and world history. Prior to joining our faculty, Mrs. Ersland was a college instructor at Hawkeye Community College. Jennifer is married and has four children. She is most looking forward to getting to know the students and staff.

Jordan Hammerand (kindergarten) Miss Hammerand earned her bachelor’s degree at the University of Northern Iowa and holds endorsements in elementary and literacy education. During her college career she worked in private childcare, Hartman Reserve Nature Center, and at the YMCA. Jordan grew up on a dairy farm in Sherrill, which is not too far from Dubuque. While spending time with family and friends is a favorite pastime, she also enjoys cooking, camping, yoga, and being outdoors. Miss Hammerand was recently engaged and is planning to get married next summer! She is excited to get to know the Hudson community this year and looking forward to building relationships with her kindergarten Pirates and their families as they create a year of new experiences together.

Olivia Jorgensen (second grade) Miss Jorgensen was prepared at Drake University and holds endorsements in K-8 reading, K-8 strat 1, and K-12 ESL. Olivia has a wide range of experience, with multiple assignments in the Des Moines area including reading, math, and special education at multiple grade levels. A familiar face, Miss Jorgensen grew up in Hudson and her entire family attended school right here, from kindergarten through graduation. She is very excited to give back to the community in such a unique way and is looking forward to the opportunity to work with the second grade team and just be teaching!

Holly Petersen (High School Math) Another proud Hudson alumnus, after graduating from high school Mrs. Petersen attended Wartburg College where she earned her Bachelor of Arts in mathematics secondary education. She holds endorsements in high school math, 5-8 math, and 5-8 science. Prior to joining the faculty at Hudson, Holly has taught four years at both Dike-New Hartford and Clear Creek Amana. She has a passion for teaching math and has a goal of helping all students find success in her classroom. Holly resides in Hudson with her husband Justin who works for Petersen Hudson Hardware Plumbing and Heating. She enjoys coaching, spending time with family and friends, and spending time outdoors. She is looking forward to getting to know her students, being involved in the school, and being a Pirate again!

Maddie Sinnott (high school science) Mrs. Sinnot earned her bachelor degree from the University of Northern Iowa and holds endorsements in biology, chemistry, and basic science. Prior to joining the Hudson faculty, she taught at West Burlington and Coon Rapids-Bayard. Originally from Muscatine, Maddie has three younger sisters, two of which are currently in college and one still in high school. Mrs. Sinnott was married in 2017 and her husband works in Buchanan County. A lover of pets, they have a cat and two dogs. Mrs. Sinnot is looking forward to getting to know the students, community, and teaching some fun classes.
