Friday Board Bulletin 12/16/2022

Board Members:

I hope today is going great for you! Our primary challenge this week has been illness. We reached a high water mark of 140 student absences on Tuesday, well above the 10% mark. As required by law, I notified the county health department but was unable to talk to anyone. Unfortunately follow up messages have gone unanswered. I met with the administrators and we have determined that we will not close school unless we get to a point that we don't have adequate teacher coverage or the health department makes that recommendation. At this point, we are holding our own. Additionally, I have tasked the custodial staff to double their efforts on cleaning and disinfecting of the facilities.

Kids do not like missing school, especially during this time of year! There have been a lot of neat activities. Today, the second graders hosted their annual 'Polar Breakfast', and the lower elementary wing was filled with the smells of breakfast! At the same time, our FFA sponsored their annual staff breakfast which is a huge treat for the employees. We have had numerous home basketball games (our teams are doing great right now), and great holiday music concerts from our music department.

As for me, I took the day off on Thursday to help get ready for our family Christmas on Saturday. Friday I'm in Des Moines for the BoEE meeting so unfortunately I am missing out on some of these fun activities!

Have a great weekend and I look forward to seeing you on Wednesday for our board meeting. Remember, the majority of this meeting will be a work session with our construction team and food will be served! I am looking forward to it!
