Friday Board Bulletin 4/7/2023

Board Members:

Ann has had a good week! We continue to wait for her 'numbers to recover' and they have really started to come up the last four days. According to the doctor, she should be able to come home next week!

This week was relatively uneventful in the legislature as there were no subcommittees related to education and only one education bill debated: SF 496 was amended and sent back to the Senate. The amendment is basically a “redo” of the bill and is 38 pages long. It includes bills that were considered dead: HF 253 – Charter schools and athletics, HF 608 – Seizure training, HF 429 – Intra-district transfers, and HF 255 – Alternative Licensure. It's hard to say what next week will bring, there will likely be little action as negotiations on the budget will probably take center stage behind closed doors. 'Shell budget bills' were passed this week as well, which signals they are eyeing the end of the session, which is scheduled for April 28.

We're still a week and a half from our April meeting, but I would encourage you to start looking at the agenda, particularly item 7.3. There are going to be a lot of moving parts from now to the end of the school year as we make final preparations for the construction project. Just to give you an idea of where things currently stand, Chad and I met this week with bond counsel and our financial advisor to review the official statement and participate in our first disclosure conference. At the same time, construction documents are nearing completion and the Notice to Bidders was published this week. Bid letting is scheduled for May 9, the bond sale is May 17, board approval of the project and approval of the bond sale is also May 17th, and construction will begin on May 30.

Have a great weekend and Happy Easter. I anticipate my schedule will begin to normalize toward the end of next week!
