Friday Board Bulletin 3/22/2024

Board Members:

Well, this morning was a bit of a surprise, but not entirely out of the realm of possibility. On April 18, 2018 we had a snow day! So, there is still time!

The big news of the week out of Des Moines was the passage of the AEA reform bill out of the House. I don't have a lot of details yet, but it sounds like the bill is similar to what the Senate passed last week with a few negotiated changes. It is my understanding the Senate will take this up on Monday where it is expected to pass and subsequently signed by the governor. I believe with this, the remainder of the large education policy bills will be settled by the end of next week as well. I'll need to circle back with Matt and Dave on teacher salaries to discuss the application of the teacher compensation package so stay tuned for that. You'll notice this has been removed from the agenda next week.

Speaking of which, a reminder that we have our regular board meeting next week. This is a week later due to the new budgetary requirement of an additional hearing on the tax levy proposal. We are going to need to have a couple of extra meetings, starting with April 3 (this will be back to back Wednesdays). This first meeting will be to approve the 'official statement' for the district and to set a date for the sale of bonds. That will be followed up by another special meeting on May 1 to approve the sale. There will be a lot of ground to cover!

That is all for now. Have a great weekend and I hope your snowblower is in working order today!
