Friday Board Bulletin 9/7/18

Posted Date: 09/07/2018

Board Members:

Although an abbreviated week, we managed to pack quite a bit in! Tuesday we met in the morning to review the conceptual drawings and renderings for Phase III of the elementary renovation project. Those drawings are included in your board packet and is referenced as exhibit 7.2c. If any of the emeritus members would like to see these drawings, send me an email and I'll forward them to you. As an additional invitation, if you are interested in seeing the floor plans, stop by and I'll give you an in depth look! Following that meeting, Mr. Schlatter and I met with St. Timothy's and provided some feedback in advance of the formulation of a task force to look at their future plans. St. Tim's recently completed some major renovations to their early childhood space and are looking to find their niche. Our conversation was fruitful and I think we will have a valuable partner in them moving forward.

Wednesday was kind of a long day, with most of it being at the AEA superintendent meeting. With it being the first meeting of the year we had quite a lengthy agenda. Following that meeting, I reviewed my calendar and realize I have a lot of meetings with outside entities in the next couple of weeks. While they are important meetings covering timely information, I would much rather be in the district!

Thursday morning Mr. Dieken, Mrs. McCaulley, and I met here in the district with representatives from the Waterloo Community School District to consider program sharing opportunities. We have had some youngsters express an interest in the CNA program in Waterloo, while they have students in Waterloo expressing an interest in our Agriculture program. If we can put something together, it could be one of those rare occasions where we have a 'win-win' for everyone. We'll keep moving this ball down the field to see where we land.

A recap of the week wouldn't be complete without a mention of the extensive rainfall. The rainfall challenge for us on Monday had us chasing leaks most of the morning. Right now we are in the process of fixing those leaks and hopefully will have them all patched up before the weekend. The other challenge we had to contend with was rerouting some bus routes, as the usual roads were under water. Finally, tonight is our home football opener. We did make an attempt to find an alternate location to play because the field is very wet. Needless to say we were unsuccessful finding a location. It remains to be seen how the field holds up tonight.

And please don't forget: Monday is the annual DRIVE 4UR School event at Colwells from 11AM to 8PM!

Preparing the soil beds for vegetables in the greenhouse

The photo I am sharing today is from a recent visit to the greenhouse where I found Alexandra preparing these beds for vegetable planting. Soon we'll have all sorts of produce from our greenhouse!
