Friday Board Bulletin 2/12/2021

Board Members:

It has been a busy (and cold) week! A lot of effort was spent on the coordination and schedule of COVID-19 vaccinations for our employees. Originally scheduled to begin yesterday, the Iowa Department of Public Health had other ideas. We now anticipate vaccinations to begin next Wednesday and I am optimistic that we will be able to have our employees vaccinated in two waves, with both doses being administered by the time we return from spring break. Here is the weekly COVID update.

In legislative news, there are a lot of bad proposals right now that would not be at all helpful to our public school system. The deadline for passing SSA was today, and since the legislature doesn't meet on Friday they will once again miss this deadline. To remind you, the Senate passed a bill of 2.2% and the House proposed 2.5%. Last evening the House ended up debating and amending the Senate bill at 2.4% and sent it back to that chamber for consideration. I presume a deal has been reached, but until the Senate meets we won't know for sure. The Senate is scheduled to gavel in at 1:00 p.m. on Monday.

That's all for now. Have a great weekend and I look forward to seeing you for our board meeting on Wednesday at 5:00. Stay warm, and good luck to our girls basketball team who will be playing East Marshall tomorrow in regional basketball. The game is now scheduled to begin at 5:00 on Saturday, here in Hudson.
